Modernization and expansion of a three story, 7,000 sf brick and limestone 1895 firehouse along 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, NY.

Typical of the firehouses serving these low-to-medium density residential neighborhoods, the building houses an apparatus room for the fire engines, an office, a dormitory, kitchen, and lounge area. The interior spaces were modernized and expanded for the new program requirements of the engine company. The modern extension at the back of the building with a brie-soleil and large glass openings integrate the exterior courtyard to become part of the firehouse. Daylight was introduced through the new skylights over the main stairway, and the dining area enhancing the quality interior workspaces. The front façade was altered to accommodate the size of the new fire engines.
