54 Greene Street Façade Restoration
Historic Preservation
Originally designed as a warehouse for RHL Townsend company by architect J.F. Duckworth, this cast-iron and brick ‘palace of commerce’ was built by the construction company of John T. Conover and completed on February 28, 1873.

Even though the uses inside the six story 33,404 square foot building changed significantly over the last 140 years, the building façade and architectural ornamentations were left untouched.

Our team with specialized consultants thoroughly analyzed the facade materials and the original structural elements tying the cast iron elements to the main steel frame. All new and re-furbished elements were considered for the longevity of their preservation. The team recovered all of the original details, repaired and replicated all of the missing or damaged architectural elements in the most accurate manner, sometimes replicating the 19th C. Ingenuity of craftsmanship, sometimes using the most sophisticated technology available in the 21st C.
